As of 2017, Tech Nation reported that there were around 14,018 digital technology jobs in Exeter, which surpasses many of the other big tech cities in the South West. Exeter actually boasts the highest growth of digital tech employment in the UK. Between 2010 and 2014 the area experienced 161% growth in digital tech employment.

There is a strong link between the local universities and colleges which means that there’s is a wealth of young digital talent being locally sourced. The cathedral city has also become a hotspot for startups, featuring 82 new business basing themselves in Exeter in 2017. We are excited to see what comes out of Exeter in the 2019 South West Digital Awards.

Many more businesses are moving to the South West. With Exeter asserting itself as a digital hub for Devon, it’s becoming one of the best places in the region to grow or start your business. Organisations like The Met Office have been based in Exeter since 2003 and the UK’s largest crowdfunding platform, Crowdcube is situated in the University of Exeter’s Innovation Centre.
